IJMB results are calculated based on grades obtained in three subjects:
- A = 5 points
- B = 4 points
- C = 3 points
- D = 2 points
- E = 1 point
- F = 0 points
For example, a student offering three subjects such as Biology, Chemistry, and Physics will have their grades converted into points and summed to determine the final IJMB score.
A bonus point may also be awarded in some cases where a candidate performs well across all subjects.
General IJMB Cut-Off Ranges
- 5 – 6 points: Minimum requirement for many universities (basic admission level)
- 7 – 9 points: Average performance; suitable for less competitive courses
- 10 – 11 points: Good score; opens access to many science and social science programmes
- 12 – 13 points: Very strong result; competitive for most courses

Course-Based Requirements
IJMB cut-off marks also depend heavily on the course of study:
- Medicine, Surgery, Law, Pharmacy, Engineering:
Usually require 10 – 14+ points, often demanding grades like AAB, ABB, or better. - Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science):
Typically require 8 – 12 points depending on the university. - Social Sciences (Economics, Political Science, Sociology):
Often require 7 – 10 points. - Education, Agriculture, Arts-related courses:
May accept 5 – 9 points, depending on demand.
University Differences
There is no universal cut-off mark for IJMB. Each institution sets its own requirement. For example:
- Some universities may accept 5 points as the minimum general requirement
- Competitive departments in universities like ABU, UNILORIN, UNIZIK, UNILAG, and others often require higher scores
- Admission also depends on departmental quotas and course demand
How IJMB Points Affect Admission Chances
Your IJMB score directly influences your admission strength:
- A 13–15+ point score gives very high chances for competitive courses like Medicine or Law
- A 10–12 point score is strong and competitive for most science and social science courses
- A 7–9 point score may still secure admission but with limited course options
